Saturday’s Restrain the Train event brought the local community and traders together in their opposition to High Speed Rail 2 which will see the lives of thousands of Camden citizens’ lives severely effected. As developments are halted, housing is blighted or businesses – like the fantastic Drummond Street curry houses – are under threat, the proposals would cut a swathe through the borough.
What are Camden communities being threatened for? So that the very richest travelers can arrive at their destinations twenty minutes faster. Instead of building local infrastructure to build capacity where it is needed or reducing fares there seems to be an obsession with large scale vanity projects over deeper, broader projects (like a national electrification programme).
