Behold! Oh, I thought I had a weird imagination but this simply blew – my – mind!

Yes, you are reading the sign right – these are English Breakfast Cup Cakes. For real.

Designed by Anna Rose who has just set up shop in Grove Road, Bow, her cup cake business is so new that she hasn’t even got the “Out of the box” sign up yet. But with products like these the masses will come to you like rats to the Pied Piper.

I’d never considered a savoury cup cake before and, frankly, I only went in for a drink because it was such a hot day but I felt it was my duty to try one.

As you can see the “cake” is topped with bacon, sausage and a little half an egg. All yummy.

The “icing” is in fact some sort of tomato based fondue which I thought was rather nice as it happens, although rich so I wouldn’t want a second.

The batter for the cake mix itself was infused with ingredients and, what I think were mushrooms. Brilliance!

When I asked Anna how she came up with the idea she said “Well, I just love food and am always experimenting.”

Ten out of ten for originality and it was pretty tasty too. There were other savoury and sweet cup cakes to try, so if you’re in the area do pop in and tell her the Big Smoke sent you. I am slightly worried that Bow may not yet be ready for this kind of excitement so she, like all new small businesses, deserves and needs our support to get off the ground.
