Blink and you’d miss it, Joe Simpson‘s little gallery tucked away off Camden High Street has just finished today. As yo can see it was hiding in plain sight among the ubiquitous scaffolding and works that are forever going  on in the area.

Joe Simpson’s work that draws and plays with the mood of man made landscapes and broiling clouds definitely has a certain something. The natural and artificial of great open rural vistas is a great theme to toy with.

The Electrified pylons and lines across the curves and billows of nature cut nicely to the eye. The varied size and shapes of the works also add a certain something.

Joe of his work that “I’ve always found pylons and telegraph poles quite cinematic. There are some great movie scenes that use them as backdrops… I started to create paintings that tried to capture brooding skies with contrasting man-made, rigid structures against them – I really enjoyed the process and the departure from my normal style.”

Indeed, it really comes across.

While I don’t want to over egg the work I do think it was well worth nipping in. Partly just to experience the place itself,  which I hear may be becoming a more permanent art space, but also to see something distinct being done with paint that you certainly would not see everyday.

Look out for him if you ever see his name crop up.
