Duties and responsibilities

The advisor will be required to promote recycling schemes in the London Borough of Waltham Forest through face to face conversations with local residents. Training will be provided before the start of the project. Fifteen members of staff are required, from which we will select two team leaders.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Knocking on doors in the areas allocated to you by your team leader

• Working as part of a team to ensure your allocated areas are fully covered each day

• Promote the garden waste service in order to increase the number of users, gather requests for a kitchen caddy and reduce contamination

• Advise the new collection day

• Advise that residents can share bins with their neighbours

• Promote the bulky waste and re-use service

• Advise customers about the new collection vehicles and the co-collection of residual waste and dry recycling

• Keeping accurate records of the households visited each day

• Completing relevant paperwork, updating logs and returning of necessary paperwork to the Project Manager

• Providing feedback to your team leader on a regular basis

• Talking to residents informing them about the available recycling schemes

• Encouraging residents to participate and utilise the recycling scheme

Personal specification

• Ability and willingness to engage confidently with members of the public in a clear and assertive manner

• Excellent communication skills

• Ability to work well as part of a team to meet performance targets

• Keen interest in waste, recycling and environmental issues

• Good organisational skills and ability to work without direct supervision

• Ability to work outside in a large team

• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends

  • Desirable

• Clean driving licence

Further details

Duration: 10 weeks, 30 hrs per week

Days worked:

  • Tuesday to Friday (1pm to 8pm) includes 1 hr of unpaid lunch break
  • Saturday (10am to 5pm) includes 1 hr of unpaid lunch break

Start Date: Tbc – Last week of February.

Training will be provided.

Finish Date: Late April/Early May

Pay rate: £7.70 for Recycling Surveyors or £8.70 per hour for two appointed Team Leaders
