Labour have brought out a rather well done video explaining their Fare Deal policy. MP Stephen Pound narrates seemingly on the basis that his name is pound, ho ho, but he makes a goo fist of it none the less.

Leaving aside the muzak and clip art noises of oh’s and applause (which is a bit tacky to be honest) the video has a clear, unmuddled feel to it which seems pretty effective.

The core claim is that there is one billion pounds of surplus in the budget of which not a single penny has bee spent on improvements – so this money can be used to fund a 7% fare reduction. I think we’ll describe this claim as “controversial” and leave it at that.

What certainly is true is that fares need to come down.

I don’t understand Labour’s obsession with Boris’ Daily Telegraph column. He claims to write it on a Sunday morning and it helps him to relax. He’s a good writer and can probably bash out an article in an hour.

His comment that the £250k fee he receives is ‘chicken feed’ was ill judged and insensitive but I really think a lot of Londoners might actually think, ‘good on him!’ Why wouldn’t you take it?

I’m pretty sure Ken used to write a column for someone or other – not to mention other sidelines. It feels like petty point scoring too me too.
