Salary: £26,000 p/a (one-year fixed contract)

Job Details:

Based in Parliament, the Parliamentary Research Service (PRS) is a pooled research facility for Labour MPs who choose to join. The PRS provides information and research for its members in support of their parliamentary duties.

The PRS is a not-for-profit organisation, funded entirely from members’ subscriptions, and works exclusively for its members in support of their Parliamentary duties and not in any party political activity.

Established in 2011, the PRS has continued to grow and is looking to expand its research capacity.

The PRS is looking for a Research Officer with excellent writing and research skills, able to produce high quality, accurate materials, often to tight deadlines.

 

Key duties of the role:

– Producing well-written and accurately researched copy and background briefing materials

– Monitoring Parliamentary activity including the passage of Bills, Government announcements, Private Members’ Bills and back-bench business

– Reacting quickly to members’ requests

– Maintain, update and develop knowledge of relevant legislation with a future possibility of developing knowledge in a specialist area

 

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate in their application:

1. Excellent writing skills

2. Accurate and thorough research skills with the ability to identify key issues and distil and communicate them effectively

3. Knowledge of the Parliamentary process with at least 2 years experience of working in Parliament or a similar role

4. Ability to communicate effectively and build up contacts internally and with external organisations where relevant

5. Sound judgement and an ability to use initiative

6. Well organised and able to work to tight deadlines and prioritise a varied workload

7. Good IT skills
