My main thought leaving Be Good Revolutionaries at the Ovalhouse was that I’d  rather enjoy a play than understand it – and I certainly enjoyed this performance.

Deep in the jungle a revolutionary leader’s family await his return. Reciting his sayings by rote they hope to make him happy by enacting over and over again, each time with less meaning, less purchase on reality the daily routines of a good revolutionary. As the recitations become more and more ridiculous

Disturbing, funny and moving by turns the play also includes one of the least embarrassing, most convincing sex scenes I’ve seen in fringe theater, and believe me  cringe easily.

The play runs until the 21st of June. I’m not sure whether it’s about or yearning for our father’s love, the nature of revolutionary politics or simply how we build ideological glass houses that shelter us for a while but break under pressure, so if you do manage to catch this excellently performed, intriguing piece, do let me know.
